Usually, my monthly round-up posts go live after the month has finished but, your gal is getting married. After two years of planning, I’m finally getting to say I do to my soulmate at the beginning of June and I couldn’t be more excited. I am a little nervous but, it is over the small things due to being a perfectionist and wondering how the tables will look and will it be as aesthetically pleasing as I want it to be. I can’t wait until the big day is finally here, but in the meantime, I’m trying to soak up the run-up and enjoy it as much as possible. Anyway, without rambling on about my wedding too much, here is what I read and loved in May.
I know I say this in every post but this month has well and truly flew in thanks to being constantly busy but, I did manage to read ten books, but it wasn’t the greatest reading month. Most of the books I read were just ok but there was one book that stood out, which was The Farm by Joanne Ramos. I absolutely loved this book and despite, being a little slow to get into, I was deeply invested in the story and couldn’t wait to find out what happened. Jane is an immigrant who has taken the opportunity to become a host – essentially a surrogate for the rich and wealthy. She, along with other hosts, live in a resort called Golden Oaks where they have free healthcare, exercise classes, access to a dietician and a pleasant, relaxing environment while they are pregnant. But all isn’t as it seems and Jane starts to learn the truth about what being a host really entails. This book was so unique and although it is hailed as dystopian fiction, it is something you could easily imagine happening in our world right now. It is 100% my book of the month.
My New Gadget
Onto my new baby! I found myself really struggling with photography lately. No matter how I visualized photos I was about to take and having the right props set up, they never turned out the way I wanted them too. I used to have an Olympus Pen years ago but ended up trading it in for a Canon G7x as I tried to focus on Youtube then. But now that I’ve put Youtube to rest, I wanted to reinvest in getting the PEN back as it is an exceptional camera and I did just that! I got the Olympus Pen EPL-9 in this gorgeous tan shade and picked up the 45mm lens too which always gives your photos the dreamiest blurred background and razor-sharp images. I can’t wait to play around with it some more and start creating more lifestyle content using my new gadget.
When it comes to TV, I haven’t been watching TV much this month. I have my regular reality TV shows that I watch such as the Real Housewives via Hayu but this month, I’ve been watching a comedy show called What We Do In The Shadows and it is one of my favorite things on TV at the moment. It follows a group of vampires living in Staten Island and their hilarious lives. I’ve also been loving Years and Years on BBC iPlayer which is set in the future. It is similar to Black Mirror – set in a virtual and dystopian world. There have only been two episodes so far but it is definitely worth the watch.
Lastly, the main thing I’ve loved this month have been sheet masks. I’ve been using the Innisfree sheet masks which are cheap but have really transformed my skin. On the run-up to the wedding, I wanted my skin to be as clear and glowy as possible. I felt like my usual skincare routine needed oomph and started using one of these every night and they’ve been fantastic. My skin is really clear and looking dewy. My favourite go to ones are the pomegranate and rice, and at £1.85, they’re a real bargain.
So that is my monthly round-up! June is a HUGE month for me so I’m taking a break from blog posts, but I will be back in July with a bunch of new content and more books and lifestyle posts. Thanks for reading x1
