Spring has sprung and I’m so thankful winter is over. After the beast from the east last year, it was a relief to have a relatively mild winter but like Prince once sang, sometimes it snows in April, and I’m hoping that won’t be the case because your girl here has peonies in her wedding bouquet and doesn’t want anything to jeopardise that. March was an incredibly busy month, so my goals for April are much smaller than usual but, I think it is somewhat therapeutic to write down your aspirations for the month – given that my main one is mental health related. I did a post talking about why I no longer blog about my mental health, but I think sometimes, it is important to talk about something you feel may benefit someone else.
Focus on my mental health
Between work, planning a wedding, having a puppy and trying to keep my illness under wraps, I’ve been experiencing major burn out lately. I’m struggling to concentrate, to even read which tells me something is really off and having a puppy is almost like having a baby. Wedding planning is at the stage where it all is all go, go go and honestly, I’m exhausted. I’m glad I recognise this though, and my plan for the beginning of April is to re-establish my boundaries and focus on reconnecting with my coping mechanisms. Sometimes when we are busy, we neglect ourselves and sadly, that has been the story of my life these last couple of months. But, I have the awareness to make a change, and I’m glad I have that to keep me in check.
A bit ironic to post a photo of two delicious looking cappuccinos in a post where you chat about giving up caffeine but I feel like I’m relying on it so much and I’m in the process of whitening my teeth for my wedding that it just has to go. It will be tough; I’m fully prepared for it to be as hard as I think it will but, I do believe I will kick the habit and hopefully, not be so reliant on it. Have you ever given up caffeine? I would love to hear your tips and tricks.
Use my local library
I’ve had a library card for around a year now, but the new releases at my library are few and far between, but lately, they’ve been getting more and more new books in and I really want to use the service more. My biggest outgoing each month, besides all my bills, is books. I have so many that I have to constantly unhaul them and it is getting to the point where I’m at the charity shop with around 60 books at a time. I’ve tried reselling, but it seems there isn’t that much interest plus P&P, going to the post office etc. can be a chore. So reading on the cheap which I try to do with my Kindle plus the library, should mean I keep the number of books I own down …. famous last words!
Change theme away from Pipdig
If you aren’t a blogger or have been living under a rock, there has been pandamonium on twitter over the allegations that Pipdig, one of the biggest theme providers for bloggers, have embedded malicious code into their themes. It has caused so much panic but sadly, the alleged coding is true, and developers have encouraged bloggers to move away from Pipdig completely. I plan to in the coming days and have already seen a new theme I like but, it is a horrible situation seeing others who can’t afford to. It has also made me aware of how clueless I am when it comes to coding, and I really should be educating myself more.
So those are my April plans. Like I say, the focus is going to be primarily on my mental health. I feel totally burnt out after burning the candle at both ends, and I haven’t been using my usual tools to keep in check with myself. So wether it be listening to a podcast, going a walk after work, chilling with a sheet mask on or diving into a book, that is my main goal for April.
I love reading goals post and would love to know what you have in store for April. You can tweet or IG me at @whatamydid or comment below. Thanks for reading as always!1
