Happy New Year! I’ve been MIA on the blogging front since November last year after a combination of running out of motivation and being swept into the Christmas spirit. I hope you all had a lovely time over the holidays and are ready to take on 2019 as much as I am. I’ll admit, 2018 was the worst year of my life. It was challenging, testing and life changing but, I learned so much about myself and I definitely am now a stronger person than I was this time last year. 2019 is also a very exciting year for me. I get married in five months time – eeeeek! I’ve really enjoyed wedding planning so I can’t wait to see it all come together and have the most amazing day celebrating with all the people we love. I haven’t set any resolutions this year but I do have a couple of reading goals that I thought I would share.
Be more active on my blog
I ran out of steam at the tail end of the year but 2018 was a massive year for my blog. I managed to win my award which I haven’t shut up about now that I can call myself a fully-fledged award-winning blogger. I also got to work with some amazing publishers and I want to continue to do that in 2019. I’m planning to bring more reviews onto the blog as well as monthly roundups, hauls and some lifestyle pieces too. I love blogging and it has been a huge part of my life for so long that I always feel sad when I’ve not managed to give it the time it deserves but 2019 is the year I dedicate more time to my corner of the internet.
Read 70 Books
In 2017, my reading goal was 30 and I read 73. In 2018, my goal was 50 and I read 105. For 2019, I’ve set a goal of 70 with the hope of reading more but, with the wedding and all the other plans I have for the year, I want to be realistic and not set the bar tooooo high. So I think 70 is achievable. How many books are you aiming for this year? I’d love to hear what your goal is.
Read more fiction on important topics
I want to read more books about current, important topics that we currently see in the world. I’ve saved a good amount of books to my GoodReads TBR that feature writing from POC, books on subjects such as race and immigration and books exploring different cultures. I find myself always gravitating towards new releases but this year, I don’t want to feel the pressure of constantly pushing new books on my bookstagram and read books that tackle difficult topics.
Continue The Two Amys Book Club
In case you didn’t know, I co-run a book club with a fellow blogger also named Amy. I have a blog post with all the details that you can read here. It has been fun so far and I’m looking forward to discovering new books via the club throughout 2019. We’d love for you to join!
And, that’s it! I don’t like setting lots of resolutions. I used to be a very goal orientated person but if I’ve learned anything over the last few years, it is that life can be unpredictable and it is best to see what lies in store than try to dictate it – which is something I was very, very guilty of! I’d love to know what your goals are for the year. You can comment below or tweet/IG me at amysbookshelf. Thanks for reading as always!0
